Let’s get straight on with it:

Since I parted ways with Creative Weblogging, and I liked some of the fringe benefits of writing for a gadgets blog, I decided I had better start my own: Joy of Gadgets.
If you visit the site, you’ll notice I’ve got a fair bit of stuff already. It’s never good form to “launch” an empty blog. I will be posting my take on gadgety goodness 3-5 times a week on Joy of Gadgets. Engadget or Gizmodo I am not, nor do I intend to compete with them. In any case, I will be on the lookout for interesting and sometimes absurd gadgets and gizmos and give my take on them.
What kind of gadgets? Anything that performs a useful function, be it physical piece of gear or software for a piece of gear. There might be some overlap with phoneboy.com on the subject of mobile phones, but not much, I suspect.
Give it a look see, give it a mention on your social networks or your blog, and leave your feedback here. I’d really appreciate your help in spreading the Joy of Gadgets!

Now that my house is finally starting to cool off from today’s record-breaking heat (about 90F, 32C)–yes, we’re getting air conditioning–I can get around to my weekly roundup post.
I didn’t post as much this week. I’ve spent the past couple of weeks fighting off the various illnesses that the rest of my family seems to have had for the past several weeks. I also just need a break from cranking out posts!
The post list this week:

Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers out there!
This past week has been a busy week for posts, it seems like. I even managed a post on my internal Nokia blog this week.

I am testing my ability to blog from the Nokia N810 using MaemoWordPy. We’ll see how it works and how it looks.
The trick here is typing on the built-in keyboard. I’ve typed on smaller, but it does take a little getting used to. Would certainly do in a pinch.

My mother-in-law was given a digital camera at some point, but was befuddled by something that’s relatively easy in the analog world: dropping off a roll of film. If you still take pictures with film, actually dealing with the film is a simple matter of taking it to the drug store or some other place that can develop it.
In the digital world, that’s changed. If you want to make alterations to the pictures before developing them, that’s relatively straightforward–if you know how to do it. However, if you want to just take out your memory card and “drop off the roll of film,” you’re talking to a kiosk.
Other than the fact you might lose the SD card–something that can happen with film just as easily–why don’t places let you just drop off your SD card to get the photos off? Or why can’t the kiosks have a simple “develop all photos” button on the touch screen when you stick it in? Bonus points if you offer the option (for a few dollars) of burning the photos to a CD and wiping the SD card as well.
Maybe some place is actually doing digital photo development right. If there is, please post in the comments, as I most certainly don’t know.

A writer at c’t had asked if they could use my Netscape photo from 1997, pictured left, in their magazine. I gave them permission provided they sent me a copy of the magazine.
Earlier on Saturday, I got a copy of c’t in the mail. Sure enough, there’s the article on Netscape (in German) and in the print version, at least, my photo is there complete with a credit.
This week was personally crazy with the number of things that came up and had to be dealt with. Need to get in high writing gear to get a few more articles in the can as I have a trip coming up in the next couple of weeks.
Here’s what got published this week:

This is the first time in a long time this list has been so short. I have not been in the blogging groove as of late, and when I’ve been in that groove, it’s been really late at night. I’ve had far too many nights where I’ve ended up in bed at nearly 3am.
Here’s what I managed to write this past week:

Seems like I’ve spent a lot of time writing blog posts this week. However, most of the posts I wrote this week are actually for this coming week on VoIP Weblog where I take on the year in VoIP over the course of several posts. These posts are more time-consuming to put together than I thought, but it spans several posts. Good for this upcoming week where I don’t expect a lot happening in the world of VoIP.
Here’s this week’s list of posts I made in the blogosphere:

Well, so much for this list being shorter. That happens when you see topical gadgets and good cross-promotion opportunities.
Aside from The Mobile Technology Weblog being new to my weekly roundup, there’s also one new blog on the list this week I hadn’t talked about previously: Businesspundit. Creative Weblogging asked me to do a few posts over there over the next several weeks to promote some of the business blogs in CW’s network. I’m not used to writing about business per-se, so it’s going to be a challenge, albeit temporary.
With all my blathering out of the way, here’s this week’s list of posts I made in the blogosphere:
